Energy Emissions

The other day, I was sitting in Starbucks, enjoying a hot cup of coffee and reading on the internet, when a very nice gentleman approached me and said, “You know, I’ve seen you in here many times on your computer and you always have a big smile on your face, and I’ve asked myself, what is it she could possibly be reading?" We then went on to talk for a few minutes before he left. I was so touched by this man’s statement because I wasn’t aware of how much I smile. But then I realized that much of that smiling is actually on the inside and what’s going on inside is certain to make its way outward.

When we’re carrying positive energy around with us, it can’t help but leak out. And those that are lucky enough to be in our paths have the benefit of soaking up some of that good energy, which raises their energy frequencies. And then what happens? They emit more positive energy that gets captured by more people, and so this phenomenon spreads exponentially. An added benefit to this is that the more good energy we spread, the more we get back, which is exactly what happened from our conversation. When the man walked away, I felt even better than I did before we met.

Moments like these have happened to me before. They may seem small, but they carry with them invisible powers that have the potential to reach immense magnitudes. We are all living, breathing generators and we should all be aware that at every moment, we have the choice to give away something that will bring joy to people, which is so much nicer than sharing something that will bring them down. And even a smile that’s only on the inside will spread something abundantly good. : )

Change Your Mind

For as long as I can remember, I have had an opinion about living in a big city and owning a dog. I always felt it was unfair to a dog to keep it indoors in a confined area. I always felt that the happiest dogs were those that spent their days outdoors or at least those that lived in more suburban or even rural areas, away from the concrete and congestion and noise. But recently I met a man named Bill who challenged my preconceived notions. Bill is a dog walker in New York City. For four years, he’s been walking sometimes nine or more dogs for several hours during the day. Weather permitting, he’ll take them to the park to run and when I met him, he had just run six dogs that looked very content. You can meet Bill and some of his dogs in the following video:

When I mentioned to Bill how I felt about dogs in the city, he told me that he felt these dogs were better off in some ways than dogs in the country. They were much more well-adjusted to noise and people and they spent lots of time together, either during their daily walks or with their owners who were often friends themselves that would socialize with their dogs. He felt they had very rich and happy lives. I asked him how he felt about being a dog walker and he said he loved it. I could see how his love for his job was helping to make others happy – most importantly, the dogs. And besides, there are so many unwanted dogs in shelters right now that need loving homes. This type of life would be a blessing for them. Talking with Bill changed my mind about owning a dog while living in the city and now when I do see one out for a walk along the sidewalk, instead of feeling sad for it, I smile.

The Power of a Smile

“Smile" is a beautiful song first recorded by Nat King Cole in 1955. The lyrics speak of the positive force a smile can have in the gloomiest of moments. And he was certainly on to something.

Research has shown that when we smile, the benefits are many. It triggers changes in brain biochemistry that elevate our moods. It strengthens our immune systems and lowers our blood pressure, making us healthier. And there is certainly nothing as attractive as someone with a beaming smile.

But what I find the most remarkable about this facial expression is the profound impact it can have on a recipient. I know how I feel when someone gives me a smile. I instantly feel more calm and at ease and at the same time energized. I feel a warmth in my chest and a lightness in my step. The World instantly looks better and I start to feel myself smile from the inside out. And when I smile at someone I’m passing on the street, I will almost always witness their facial muscles relax into one as well.

It’s been cited often that it takes many more muscles to frown than to smile. But one doctor concluded that more muscles are actually needed to smile but that it may require less effort.

An authentic smile is often spontaneous. It helps to break down barriers and creates a bond between people. It is a consequence of the outward flow of love through an open heart. It gives the recipient permission to share the other’s World. It signifies a generosity of spirit and a desire for peace that propagates itself and raises the energetic frequency of the Universe.

What's so wonderful about this is that we are all free to smile. It does not cost a thing. Yet every time each one of us does smile, I believe we are elevating the consciousness of humanity. And because we are all on this planet together, when we become committed to improving the lives of everyone we encounter, by default, we better our own lives.

There are many ways we can help each other, but I can’t thing of a single, more powerful, yet simple way to help achieve this goal, than with a smile.
